Rubio Congratulates Jim DeMint On His Installation As Heritage Foundation President
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement regarding Jim DeMint’s first day as president of the Heritage Foundation, where he succeeds Ed Feulner who has served as president since 1977:
“This is a great day for the conservative movement as one of our most respected leaders assumes the presidency at Heritage. For years, Jim DeMint not only stood strong for conservative principles in the Senate, he also became a political force in growing our ranks of conservatives in Congress. I will always admire and appreciate Jim for believing in me and our shared conservative principles when I was a long-shot Senate candidate. The conservative movement’s future is in good hands with Jim DeMint leading the Heritage Foundation.
“I’d also like to congratulate Ed Feulner on his many years of service and wish him the best in his future endeavors. When I began my race for Senate in 2009, few in my party believed I could win and, as a result, many doors were closed to me even by some in my own party. But not Heritage, whose policy experts welcomed me and provided me with first rate policy advice that helped our campaign formulate a solid conservative agenda. I’ll forever be grateful to Ed and his team for their support and hospitality during a period in my campaign when both of these were hard to come by.”
