Rubio Comments on Improving U.S. Hostage Policy and Family Engagement
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today issued a statement after the James W. Foley Foundation released Bringing Americans Home: The First Non-Governmental Assessment of U.S. Hostage Policy and Family Engagement:
“I thank the James W. Foley Foundation for its new report and its thoughtful and constructive engagement on this critical issue,” Rubio said. “Far too many American families, including the Levinson family from my home state of Florida, have loved ones taken hostage abroad, so it is important for the U.S. Government do everything in its ability to fully support the families and to bring their loved ones home safely. That’s why we introduced the bipartisan Robert Levinson Hostage Recovery and Hostage-Taking Accountability Act to strengthen the Executive Branch’s interagency coordination and ensure it has the tools and authorities it needs to facilitate the return of Americans who are taken hostage or wrongfully detained abroad as well as to hold foreign actors accountable for their role in taking hostage U.S. citizens.”
