Rubio Comments on Erroneous Charges Against Russian Dissident Vladimir Kara-Murza
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued a statement after a Russian court declared opposition leader Vladimir Kara-Murza a “foreign agent” and charged him with spreading “false” information.
“Vladimir Kara-Murza is a staunch human rights advocate and civil society defender in Russia. Kara-Murza has suffered two assassination attempts and now faces an unjust prison sentence based on bogus charges,” Rubio said. “Sadly, as the Kremlin’s barbaric assault on Ukraine has proven, truth, justice, and respect for the rule of law mean absolutely nothing to a murderous thug like Vladimir Putin. As the free world awaits Kara-Murza’s final sentence, we must continue to support his cause by ensuring that Putin is held accountable for his countless war crimes as well as his crackdown on civil society and opposition leaders.”
