Rubio Blasts Democrats’ Threat to Pack Supreme Court and Intimidate Court’s Decisions
Miami, FL — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today reiterated that Democrats’ plans to pack the Supreme Court would delegitimize our nation’s highest court and undermine America’s confidence in our institutions and democracy. Rubio joined Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and the entire Senate Republican conference in sending a letter to the Clerk of the Supreme Court in response to Senator Sheldon Whitehouse’s (D-RI) brief in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. City of New York. Earlier this year, Rubio led his colleagues in introducing a constitutional amendment (S.J. Res. 14) that would limit the Supreme Court of the United States to nine justices.
“The Democrats’ threat to pack the Supreme Court and intimidate the court’s decision is just their latest shortsighted effort to undermine America’s confidence in our institutions and our democracy,” Rubio said. “Today, Senate Republicans are making it clear that our institutions matter, our Constitution matters, and we should fight to protect them.”
