Rubio: Biden and Media Continue Defending Fauci
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released a statement after the National Institutes of Health (NIH) acknowledged that U.S. taxpayers funded gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, previously denied that taxpayer dollars, funneled through the EcoHealth Alliance, were used in Wuhan for those purposes.
“The American people lost faith in Dr. Fauci long ago,” Rubio said. “Over the past 18 months, he repeatedly withheld the truth from Americans. No one should be surprised that the NIH is now acknowledging that taxpayers did fund gain-of-function research in Wuhan despite Fauci’s repeated claims to the contrary. The only real surprise is that President Biden and the legacy media continue to defend Fauci and his actions.”
In June 2021, Rubio introduced the COVID Act of 2021 to authorize sanctions and other restrictions in the event that, 90 days after enactment, the Chinese Communist Party fails to allow for a credible and comprehensive investigation into the origins of COVID-19 at suspected laboratories in Wuhan. The bill would impose a prohibition on gain-of-function virus research cooperation between any individual or institution based in the United States that receives federal funding and any People’s Republic of China-based individual or institution.
