Rubio Applauds U.S. Air Force Announcement on Tyndall Air Force Base Being the Prime Location for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter
St. Petersburg, FL — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today applauded the announcement by the United States Air Force reconfirming that Tyndall Air Force Base will be fully rebuilt and F-35s fighter jets will arrive at Tyndall AFB in 2023. A recently completed analysis by the Air Force determined that Tyndall Air Force Base is the ideal location for basing three F-35A squadrons due to its resources, location and proximity to the Gulf Range Complex. This action will ensure the Air Force takes advantage of the opportunity to improve lethality and readiness by pairing the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter with Tyndall AFB’s valuable airspace over the Gulf of Mexico.
“Today’s announcement is great news not only for national security, but also for the people of Florida,” Rubio said. “I thank Acting Secretary of the Air Force, Matt Donovan, for his continued efforts to help the Panhandle community by rebuilding Tyndall Air Force Base. While Tyndall has a long road to full recovery, I am proud of what the base leadership, Air Force personnel, and their families have been able to accomplish in overcoming the devastation brought on by Hurricane Michael. I remain committed to seeing that Tyndall is fully rebuilt.”
