Rubio Applauds Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir Construction Contract
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) applauded the announcement by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) that the first construction contract has been awarded for the federal portion of the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir project, a critical part of the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP).
“The importance of the EAA Reservoir to the success of Everglades restoration cannot be overstated,” Rubio said. “This is a pivotal moment for Everglades restoration, and I remain committed to doing everything in my power to expedite the critical work to restore America’s River of Grass.”
In 2016, Rubio led the effort to authorize the CEPP, and secured its modification to include the EAA project in 2018. In 2020, Rubio secured a key provision in the Fiscal Year 2021 omnibus appropriations bill to circumvent the Army Corps of Engineers’ bureaucracy in order to expedite the construction of the EAA Reservoir after the USACE ignored congressional intent and unnecessarily delayed the construction of the project.
