Miami, FL – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement regarding President-elect Donald Trump’s intention to nominate Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC) for U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (U.N.):
"I've been impressed with Governor Nikki Haley's leadership of South Carolina and welcome her nomination to be the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
"The U.N. has consistently failed to live up to its potential. Instead of an organization speaking for the voiceless and those under attack, it far too often has been a forum for America's enemies to attack the U.S. and for the world's most brutal leaders to attempt to absolve themselves of responsibility for their crimes.
"I have led efforts in the Senate to reform the U.N. and ensure that U.S. support is conditioned on a cessation of anti-Israel rhetoric and U.N. organizations no longer funding terrorist entities. I look forward to working with Governor Haley on these and other issues once she assumes her new role."
