RUBIO MEETS WITH FLORIDA’S NATURAL GROWERS IN UMATILLA

Umatilla, FL - U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today met with Florida’s Natural Growers employees, growers, and local farm bureau representatives to discuss challenges the citrus industry faces.

“I had a great tour and visit at the Florida’s Natural facility today in Umatilla. These growers are still grappling with the damage caused by Hurricane Irma, citrus canker and citrus greening, and other invasive pests,” said Rubio. “While I am proud to have convinced USDA Secretary Perdue to allocate $340 million towards the Florida Citrus Block Grant to help growers recover from crop losses, this treasured Florida industry still faces many challenges. I heard firsthand about the importance of federal funding to support citrus research, and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue my efforts to ensure that Florida citrus receives the research funding it needs to remain a strong economic engine throughout our state.”
