Miami, FL— U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement after Boris Nemtsov Plaza Designation Act of 2018 (D.C. Act 22-276) was signed into law. This makes official the designation of the street sign in front of the Russian Embassy as Boris Nemtsov Plaza in honor of the slain Russian opposition leader.
“Boris Nemtsov Plaza will serve as a permanent reminder that the voices of liberty live on and the Putin regime cannot use murder and intimidation to silence dissent. It is my hope that one day there will be a government in Moscow that is proud to have Nemtsov’s name outside of its embassy in Washington, D.C. Until that day comes, we will continue to stand with all those Russians fighting for a free and democratic future like the one envisioned by the late Boris Nemtsov. I am proud to have worked with the D.C. City Council on this important initiative.”
