Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today issued the following statement on the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act:
“Forty years ago, the Taiwan Relations Act was signed into law forming, along with the Six Assurances of 1982, the foundation for U.S.-Taiwan relations. Taiwan today remains a critical security partner, and a beacon of democracy and freedom in the Indo-Pacific.
“I am committed to strengthening America’s economic, military, and cultural ties with Taiwan as we work together to confront the growing challenges posed by China. I was proud to co-author the Taiwan Travel Act that President Trump signed into law in March 2018, and look forward to enacting new legislation that further enhances the U.S.-Taiwan relationship.
“As the Chinese Government and Communist Party uses economic and political pressure in blatant efforts to bully and isolate Taiwan internationally, it is more important than ever that the United States reaffirms its commitment to the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances.”
