U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio toured the South Florida Water Management District headquarters in West Palm Beach on Friday morning.
The Republican met with staff and water managers to discuss Lake Okeechobee discharges into the St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon, plus the Central Everglades Planning Project.
The project, which could reduce 14 percent of discharges, was included in a bill that approves water and marine infrastructure projects across the nation. On track to get congressional approval this year, it cleared its first Senate committee Thursday.
