Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) introduced a bipartisan resolution to recognize the first anniversary of the explosion that took place at the Port of Beirut on August 4, 2020. The resolution expresses solidarity with the people of Lebanon and calls for government accountability to ensure justice for the victims of the blast. It further calls upon the government of Lebanon to address the nation’s systemic corruption and the poor governance that contributed to the explosion. The blast killed more than 200 people, injured more than 7,500, and displaced an estimated 300,000.
