Rubio Statement on Second North Korean Summit
Feb 25 2019
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement ahead of the second summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un:
“American negotiators must push for no less than a strong deal to completely, verifiably, and irreversibly dismantle the North Korean nuclear and missile programs,” Rubio said. “If we cannot get a strong deal, then the U.S., our treaty allies South Korea and Japan, and other security partners must truly maximize our pressure, including immediately expanding and intensifying international sanctions against North Korea and its enablers like China to halt the Kim regime’s nuclear program, missile activities, and egregious human rights abuses.”
Rubio is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on the State Department, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (SFOPS).
