PHOTOS: Rubio Visits Key West Task Force and Coast Guard Sector

Aug 31, 2017 | Press Releases

Key West, FL – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement today after receiving briefings at Joint Interagency Task Force South and touring Coast Guard operations at Sector Key West:

“It was an honor to visit Joint Interagency Task Force South and see the excellent collaboration between U.S. intelligence, military and law enforcement personnel working side by side with personnel from 17 partner nations in the Western Hemisphere and Europe. JIATF-South plays an essential role in the intelligence gathering efforts against transnational criminal organizations and the interdiction of illicit narcotics, weapons, people and money in our hemisphere.

“Today’s tour of Sector Key West showcased the Coast Guard’s capabilities for interdicting illicit trafficking and protecting our shores. The men and women who serve our nation in the U.S. Coast Guard are among our nation’s finest. Sector Key West continues to answer the call to protect our state and our nation at a time of increased threats and flat or declining budgets. The flow of drugs by sea only exacerbates the addiction crisis plaguing America and continues to pose a threat to our national security. I remain resolute in supporting all of the Coast Guard’s missions and will continue to push for measures bolstering their capabilities to defend our nation and our local communities from all maritime threats.”
