NTU Endorses Transparency Bill Co-sponsored by Rubio

Aug 22, 2011 | Blog

Last week, the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) sent an open letter to Congress encouraging them to pass S. 1501, the Budget Control Joint Committee Transparency Act. This bill was introduced by Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) with Senator Rubio as one of seven original co-sponsors. The bill would require that all meetings of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction (the “Super Committee”) are made open to the public and available to be covered on television.

NTU wrote, “accountability in the legislative process is not an issue of politics, but of a fundamental belief in good governance. The issues with which the Select Committee on Deficit Reduction will be dealing have the potential to affect far too many lives and wallets to be handled behind closed doors. For that reason we encourage you to support S. 1501 and H.R. 2796 as well as other steps toward making the Committee as transparent as possible.”

Senator Rubio believes transparency and accountability in government is critical to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction and all parts of the Federal government.

NTU is a nonprofit, non-partisan citizen group whose members advocate for lower taxes and smaller government at all levels.

Earlier this month, NTU placed two bills Senator Rubio had introduced on their list of “No Brainer” Bills Congress Should Pass For Taxpayers.
