MEDIA ADVISORY: Senator Rubio To Hold Human Trafficking Awareness Briefing In Miami
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) will hold a human trafficking awareness briefing in Miami today, December 2. The event will be held at Kristi House, a child victims assistance center, and will serve to raise awareness about the human trafficking problem in Florida and urge immediate passage of the bipartisan Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.
“Florida is particularly impacted by this atrocious practice of modern day slavery, as traffickers prey on the large number of teenage runaways here,” said Rubio. “We must continue doing everything we can to raise public awareness of a problem that is right under our noses, and also enact public policies to support law enforcement, better coordinate their efforts at all levels, assist victims and combat this horrendous crime at home and abroad.”
Following a closed press briefing between Rubio and law enforcement officials, media will be escorted for a brief tour of Kristi House’s facilities. Immediately after this tour, Rubio will hold a media availability. The following event is open to the media:
