MEDIA ADVISORY: Rubio to Visit Colombia-Venezuela Border
Bogotá, Colombia – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today will travel to Cúcuta, Colombia, to tour the Colombia-Venezuela border and meet with officials. U.S. Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) Carlos Trujillo and Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart (R-FL) will join Rubio to see first-hand the ongoing humanitarian aid program spearheaded by the United States through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
“American, Colombian, and Venezuelan officials stand ready to provide much needed humanitarian assistance to the people of Venezuela,” Rubio said. “The narcoterrorist tyranny of Nicolás Maduro continues to block critical humanitarian relief for those who continue to suffer under his regime. The people of Venezuela remain resilient in their continued fight for democracy and freedom, and the United States will continue to stand with them.”
“As the Maduro regime continues to deny basic necessities to the Venezuelan people, the United States, through coordination with our close ally Colombia, is stepping up to send humanitarian aid to help,” Díaz-Balart said. “I am looking forward to my visit to Cúcuta with Senator Marco Rubio, OAS Ambassador Carlos Trujillo, and USAID Director Mark Green to see firsthand the important work we are doing alongside our foreign allies and NGOs. The United States has been a strong leader in supporting the Venezuelan people and the country’s constitutionally legitimate interim President, Juan Guaidó. We will continue to offer assistance and solidarity as the Venezuelan people continue to demand human rights and genuine democracy.”
Rubio is Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.

- Rubio will meet with members of the legitimately elected National Assembly of Venezuela.
