ICYMI: Rubio On CNN: Congress Needs To Act On Zika, Puerto Rico
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today urged Congress to take action on combatting the Zika virus and addressing Puerto Rico’s debt crisis while discussing his priorities for the remainder of his Senate term in an interview with CNN.
“I’m going to finish strong here in the U.S. Senate,” said Rubio. “I love the work I’m doing and we’re going to be able to get some meaningful results before this is all said and done.
“I care a lot about the Zika issue. I’m disturbed that members of my own party are standing in the way of fully funding a response to what’s an emerging public health crisis,” continued Rubio. “I hope we can get some action on what’s happening in Puerto Rico. I’ll continue to get and be engaged in these national security issues that await us.
“And then, you know, I’ll become a private citizen. I’m looking forward to that. I’ve always wanted to do things other than politics,” he added. “You know, being in public service is what I do; it isn’t who I am. And I’ve enjoyed it.”
Rubio supports the $1.9 billion funding request to combat the Zika virus and has continued to urge Congress to take responsible action toward the growing threat. He has also pushed Puerto Rican leaders to take steps to confront Puerto Rico’s financial crisis, and has urged Congress to do its part.
