On the ongoing realignment among American voters:
“The Republican Party now reflects the country. It is the most diverse coalition of voters ever to come together to elect someone to the White House. He got more votes now than he did when he first ran. And he did it not by appealing to people on the basis of the color of their skin or ethnicity or gender. He did it by appealing to them as hardworking people who want an economy that works again for people like them. As people who want to make sure we are a country that is safe at home by stopping criminals from crossing our border illegally and terrorizing our communities. As people who want us to have a foreign policy that preserves peace, that avoids us getting into wars through strength, and by being pragmatic and ensuring that our foreign policy is geared towards prioritizing our core national interests, especially at a time in which the world is spiraling out of control. That was his campaign, and it appealed to people across the board. And you saw the results.”
On how the Republican Party can begin to carry out its agenda:
“It begins by getting the president’s people in position. And obviously we can do that with 51 votes. But we don’t want [Vice President-elect] JD [Vance] to have to come down [to Congress] and break ties. The bigger our majority is, the less there is a margin for error in that regard.”
