Senator Rubio Responds To Constituent Letters On Fiscal Cliff
Washington, D.C. – In today’s installment of Marco’s Constituent Mailbox video series, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio responds to Florida constituents regarding their concerns about the fiscal cliff.
In his response about the impact of raising taxes, Rubio explained, “What history teaches us is that what some of these businesses will do is they won’t hire new people, they won’t invest in new equipment or, even worse, they lay people off and cut people’s hours. You’re already starting to see some of that behavior. So that is why I oppose raising tax rates. It’s not because of a pledge. It’s not because of some ideological locked-in mentality. It’s because I know, I don’t believe, I know history proves that when you raise these tax rates, you hurt the creation of jobs. You ultimately don’t just hurt these businesses, you really hurt the employees of these businesses.”

Constituent Casework Corner
Each week, Rubio’s staff also assists Floridians with a wide range of federal issues, both in our state offices and on the road through our staff-run “Mobile Office Hours.”
This week, Rubio’s staff assisted Felipe, a resident of South Florida. Felipe contacted Rubio’s office when he received notice that his Supplemental Security Income benefits would be terminated without proof of citizenship. As Felipe had already applied for naturalization with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, a member of Rubio’s staff contacted the agency to request an expedited review of Felipe’s application due to his financial need. The agency agreed to review his application and quickly approved it. Felipe was sworn in as a United States citizen and his benefits were restored.
