Senator Rubio Comments On State Department’s Release Of Annual Human Trafficking Report

Jun 19, 2012 | Comunicados de Prensa

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of State’s release of its 2012 Trafficking In Persons (TIP) Report:

“Human trafficking fuels the commercial sex trade, forced labor operations and even war, and ending this modern day slavery should be a priority of our domestic and foreign policy agendas. Today, I commend Secretary Clinton and the State Department for highlighting this issue through its annual report on human trafficking.

“This report is a chilling reminder of how prevalent human trafficking continues to be all over the world, particularly where freedom and democratic institutions are non-existent.  As a Floridian, I am alarmed by just how common this deplorable trade is in our own communities.

“I commend all the non-profit groups in Florida, throughout the U.S. and around the world who continue to do important work to raise awareness, improve anti-trafficking policies, protect and treat victims, and at times even shame other governments into doing the right thing.  No matter where they are in the world, the victims of human trafficking need a strong America that is willing and able to take their cause as our own.”
