Rubio Welcomes Small Business Committee’s Announcement To Examine Immigration Legislation
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today welcomed the announcement from the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship to hold an immigration roundtable to discuss the impact of E-Verify on America’s small businesses.
“I am encouraged by today’s announcement of another immigration hearing because small businesses and entrepreneurs are the backbone of our economy, and their continued input during this process is critical to improving the legislation,” said Rubio. “Any solid immigration reform proposal must help entrepreneurs continue to innovate, create jobs, and grow their businesses. Making E-Verify mandatory for the first time in U.S. history is a critical step to preventing future waves of illegal immigration, and it will also help small business owners ensure that the workers they hire are eligible to work here.
“Immigration reform will be a net positive for our economy. The Social Security Administration reports that over the next 10 years the immigration bill will create over 3 million jobs and grow our economy. But this bill is just a starting point, and we must use this official forum as another opportunity to improve it by examining its impact on America’s small businesses,” added Rubio. “More scrutiny and transparency in this process will ultimately help us fix our broken immigration system and grow our economy.”
