Rubio Urges Nations Of The Western Hemisphere To Stand United On Venezuela
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), the chairman of the Senate’s western hemisphere subcommittee, issued the following statement regarding tomorrow’s vote at the Organization of American States (OAS) invoking the Democratic Charter with regard to the Venezuelan government’s ongoing repression:
“On Thursday, the Organization of American States will meet to consider the most severe action it can take to condemn the complete destruction of democracy, the economy and society that is taking place in Venezuela. Because of Nicolas Maduro, Venezuela is crumbling before our very eyes, as dire food and medicine shortages, unprecedented crime and brutal repression are killing, injuring and jailing people, or leaving their health conditions untreated. Venezuela’s collapse and the violence, upheaval and turmoil that unfold in its wake will hurt the Venezuelan people, destabilize the hemisphere, and have repercussions here at home as well. I urge all the nations of the Western Hemisphere, particularly Caribbean nations, to send a strong and united message at the OAS that what is happening in Venezuela will no longer be tolerated.”
