Rubio Statement on U.S. Sanctions Targeting Maduro’s General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence
Washington, DC — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued a statement after the U.S. Treasury Department, pursuant to Executive Order 13850, announced new sanctions against Venezuela’s General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (La Dirección General de Contraintelligencia Militar or DGCIM), an agency responsible for significant torture and violence against Venezuelan citizens at the direction of the Maduro regime.
“While in custody of the DGCIM, retired Navy Captain Rafael Acosta Arévalo died after being brutally tortured by those working for this agency. Today’s sanctions against yet another illegitimate faction of the Maduro crime family reiterate the Trump administration’s unequivocal support for the people of Venezuela and the government of interim President Juan Guaidó. The United States will continue to stand with the Venezuelan people’s fight to restore democracy and the rule of law.”
Rubio is the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.

Washington, DC — El senador estadounidense Marco Rubio (R-FL) emitió el siguiente comunicado después que el Departamento del Tesoro de los Estados Unidos anunciara nuevas sanciones, en conformidad a la Orden Ejecutiva 13850, contra la Dirección General de Contrainteligencia Militar de Venezuela (o DGCIM), una agencia responsable de tortura y violencia contra ciudadanos venezolanos bajo la dirección del régimen de Nicolás Maduro.
“Mientras estaba bajo custodia de la DGCIM el capitán de corbeta venezolano Rafael Acosta Arévalo, murió tras ser brutalmente torturado por quienes trabajaban para esta agencia. Las sanciones de hoy contra esta facción ilegítima de la familia criminal de Maduro reitera el apoyo inequívoco del gobierno de Trump para el pueblo de Venezuela y el gobierno del presidente interino Juan Guaidó. Estados Unidos seguirá apoyando la lucha del pueblo venezolano para restaurar la democracia y el estado de derecho”.
