Rubio Statement on New Zika Warning Affecting Miami-Dade County
Miami, FL – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement today after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning regarding all of Miami-Dade County, including Miami Beach, due to new cases of local transmissions of the Zika virus:
“Today’s news means we simply have to do more to combat the spread of Zika. This is a serious public health crisis that is impacting families and women who are pregnant, not to mention visitors to Florida and our small businesses and workers. The Obama Administration must do more to reallocate existing funds to efforts to eradicate Zika from Florida, and Congress should come together and do what it should have done months ago and pass the funding our health officials and experts need to get the job done. Democrats never should have blocked the bill, and we could get it done next week if they agree to join Republicans in passing additional funding. It’s time to check the invented excuses and the political games at the door and make sure we’re doing everything possible to stop Zika in its tracks.”
Rubio was one of the first Republicans to support President Obama’s request for additional funding to fight Zika, and supported every anti-Zika bill the U.S. Senate has considered. His recent action and comments regarding Zika include:
