Rubio: Obama Should Come To American People First With Iran Deal, Not United Nations

Jul 16, 2015 | Comunicados de Prensa

Washington, D.C. U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today issued the following statement regarding the Obama Administration’s attempt to pursue a United Nations Security Council resolution to implement the Iran nuclear agreement before the American people have had a chance to approve it through their representatives in Congress:

“It is absolutely unacceptable that the Obama Administration is seeking a United Nations Security Council resolution rubber-stamping the nuclear deal with Iran as soon as next week. The resolution, which instructs member states to avoid taking any action that might undermine the agreement and codifies the eventual lifting of key arms embargoes on Iran, is a clear attempt to finalize this flawed and dangerous deal before Congress has even had the opportunity to review it.

“This tactic is not only undemocratic but also reveals the lack of confidence the administration has in its own agreement. The President is relying on adversaries like Russia and China to stifle the views of the American people’s elected representatives. It’s a clear sign that he knows if this deal is reviewed closely by the American people, it will be rejected. I will do everything in my power to ensure that we reject this deal despite the Obama Administration’s attempts to silence Congress. We cannot allow America’s security to be outsourced to the United Nations.”
