Lea el texto de la carta en inglés aquí. GENE Act, introduced by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), was the first step in combating genetic data theft by China’s genocidal regime. However, China not only steals genetic data from Americans, but also conducts biomedical research and represses its own people using genetic technology. This includes forcefully taking genetic information from Uyghurs, Tibetans, and other ethnic groups as a “crime-fighting” measure. Beijing relies on American companies for genetic technology. Unfortunately, access to U.S. genetic technology enables human-rights violations and threatens national security.

Rubio introduced the Stopping Genetic Monitoring by China Act to stop China’s use of genetic material for human rights abuses by cutting off the supply of American genetic technology.

• “America has no business aiding China’s crimes against humanity. We cannot allow Beijing to continue to use our technology to violate the human rights of its own people. That is why I am introducing the Stopping Genetic Monitoring by China Act. This bill would cut off the supply of American genetic technology to China, and it would send a clear message that we will not tolerate China’s abuse of human rights.” – Senator Rubio

This legislation would add genetic sampling and testing kits, analytical technology, and software to the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security’s Commerce Control List.
