Rubio Encourages Florida Students to Apply for 2018 Senate Youth Program
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today encouraged high school students in Florida to apply to the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP). Two high school students from Florida will be selected to join 102 other delegates in Washington, D.C., for the program’s 56th annual Washington Week in March 2018. Rubio serves on the 2017-2018 United States Senate Youth Program’s bipartisan advisory committee.
“Every year, two qualified students from Florida are selected to spend a week in Washington meeting with lawmakers and learning about the history and procedures of the United States Senate,” said Rubio. “I am honored to serve on the advisory committee of this year’s Senate Youth Program, and I encourage students throughout Florida to apply for this unique opportunity.”
Student delegates will visit Capitol Hill, the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department, the Supreme Court and many other historic sites in Washington. The program routinely includes meetings with senators, the president, cabinet secretaries, a Supreme Court justice, senior members of the national media and other key policymakers. Each speaking event incorporates lengthy and detailed question and answer sessions that are closed to the media.
The selection deadline is October 17, 2017. Selected students will be announced mid-December. Interested students in Florida should contact their high school principal or Florida’s state-level selection administrator:
