Rubio Commemorates Anniversary of Burn Pit Legislation Becoming Law
On August 10, 2022, the Honoring Our PACT Act was signed into law. This landmark, bipartisan law includes key provisions from U.S. Senator Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) Presumptive Benefits of War Fighters Exposed to Burn Pits and Other Toxins Act. Specifically, it established a presumption of service connection for veterans with illnesses associated with toxic exposure. This requires the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide health care and benefits to service members who have illnesses due to active-duty exposure to burn pits and other toxins, without forcing them to jump through hoops to prove direct causation from their time in service.
Rubio released a statement marking the anniversary of the Honoring Our PACT Act being signed into law and pledging to continue fighting for the men and women who volunteer to serve our nation.
- “The fight to pass the Honoring Our PACT Act took far too long, and thousands of veterans and their families suffered as a result. Providing veterans who were exposed to toxic burn pits during their service with the health care, disability benefits, and compensation they need and deserve is just common sense.
- “I am grateful to the veterans and their advocates who never gave up on this fight. The Honoring Our PACT Act is a historic piece of legislation that will make a real difference in the lives of veterans for years to come. I’ll continue to fight for our veterans as we work to implement this law and ensure we keep the promises we’ve made to those who have sacrificed so much “ – senador Rubio
