Rubio Applauds Small Business Admin. Decision To Assist Orlando Businesses Affected By Terrorist Attack
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement after the Small Business Administration (SBA) announced its declaration of economic injury for the state of Florida upon the Governor’s application in the aftermath of the Orlando terrorist attacks:
“I applaud the Small Business Administration for granting the Governor’s request for economic assistance to the state of Florida in the aftermath of the Orlando terrorist attacks. These economic injury disaster loans (EIDLs) will help start the long process of helping businesses in the area recover their losses. While the businesses of Florida will benefit greatly from these loans, it is important we explore other avenues in helping these businesses and their employees recover. This decision is just one more step in helping the community of Orlando heal, and I look forward to continue working with Senator Nelson to ensure our constituents have the resources they need to move forward.”
Last week, Rubio and Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) urged the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to provide emergency assistance to the small businesses in the Orlando area that have been closed off to the public in the aftermath of the Orlando attacks. In a letter to SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet, the senators requested assistance to the affected businesses, such as disaster relief loans, which the SBA authorized today.
