Rubio and Risch Meet with Venezuelan Delegation

Oct 29, 2019 | Comunicados de Prensa

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Jim Risch (R-ID), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met with Venezuelan Commissioner for Foreign Relations Julio Borges, Venezuelan Ambassador to the U.S. Carlos Vecchio, UN Ambassador Miguel Pizarro, and Deputies Juan Mejía and Carlos Paparoni, to discuss continued U.S. support for interim President Juan Guaidó and the Venezuelan people.

“Today we welcomed International Affairs Commissioner Borges and Ambassador Vecchio to discuss a path forward to return democratic rule to Venezuela,” said the senators. “The U.S. has provided more than $400 million in humanitarian aid and has taken strong actions to punish individuals and entities responsible for or profiting from the repression and humanitarian tragedy unleashed by the Maduro regime against the Venezuelan people. Our Canadian allies have joined us in this fight, and multiple Latin American governments are gearing up to take their own actions to help Venezuelans end Maduro’s illegitimate mandate. We once again encourage the European Union to join these international efforts and be on the right side of history when the Venezuelan people reclaim their freedom.”

Rubio is the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.
