Remembering Why We March
Every year, thousands of Americans come together to defend the defenseless and stand for innocent human life at the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C, and every year, I am proud to support these efforts and the simple truth that all human life is sacred. I am grateful for all those who are marching today at the 43rd annual March for Life, and for everyone who will continue to fight for the lives of the innocent and unborn across the country.
While the March may only happen once a year, we must remember #WhyWeMarch every day. Last September, I was proud to vote in favor of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, but I was also extremely disappointed when my Democratic colleagues blocked the bill from moving forward. Let the thousands of Americans marching in our nation’s capital today be a reminder of why the dignity of each and every human life is a basic principle of our nation, and let us pray for leaders who will uphold and protect that fundamental right. In Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court did great violence to our Constitution when it wrongly ruled that it protects the awful violence of abortion. The issue of life is more than political or policy-related, it is a definitional issue about the kind of country we want to be. It is impossible for America to reach her destiny as a nation founded on the equal rights of all if our government believes an entire segment of the human population doesn’t have a right to exist.
