PHOTO RELEASE: Rubio Concludes International Trip In Turkey
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Select Committee on Intelligence, today concluded his official trip to Qatar, Iraq and Turkey, where he met with government officials, human rights activists and Florida constituents serving our country overseas.
“It was important for me to meet with our Turkish allies, who are playing an important role in fighting ISIS while also being on the front lines of the refugee crisis caused by the Syrian war,” said Rubio. “Many of the problems currently plaguing the Middle East, as well as the migratory pressures facing the EU, cannot be solved without Turkey at the table playing a leadership role, and I reiterated that to officials there and urged them to keep working with the United States to address these shared challenges.
“I was also honored to meet human rights activists who are fighting to ensure that all Turks can live up to their God-given potential,” Rubio continued. “The United States must continue to stand with the Turkish people and against those who seek to undermine the rule of law and fundamental freedoms.
“For many decades, Turkey has served as a model of what a Muslim-majority country can aspire to and ultimately become when it rejects the radicalism and intolerance of a few in favor of the freedom and opportunities of the many. I hope that continues in the 21st century,” Rubio concluded.
