English/Español: Rubio: Ortega’s New Wave of Repression is Barbaric
As the Ortega-Murillo authoritarian dynasty mimics its shameless 2018 assaults against Nicaraguans and the Catholic Church, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) condemned the regime’s ongoing wave of repression.
- “Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo have perfected the art of religious persecution.
- “The regime’s periodic attacks against the Catholic Church throughout Nicaragua and acts of arson against Managua’s Cathedral by the regime’s Sandinista forces are barbaric. The expulsion of the Missionaries of Charity and censorship of religious radio stations are vile. And the arrests of members of the clergy, including Bishop Rolando Álvarez’s arrest this morning, are unacceptable.
- “The United States should use the authorities granted by the 2018 NICA Act and the 2021 RENACER Act, which I wrote with Senator Menendez, to punish regime officials responsible for these crimes and to suspend trade benefits granted by the Central American Free Trade Agreement.” — Senator Rubio
— Senador Rubio
