Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement and video message on President Trump’s commitment to supporting a return to democratic order and the rule of law in Venezuela during the State of the Union address:
“During today’s State of the Union, President Trump once again reiterated the United States’ unwavering support for the people of Venezuela, Interim President Juan Guaidó, and the democratically-elected National Assembly. Since the day Mr. Guaidó assumed the role of Interim President, the U.S. has been a strong voice of support and solidarity to the interim administration, including Venezuela’s one remaining democratic institution, the National Assembly. By inviting Interim President Juan Guaidó and the Special Envoy for Intelligence and Law Enforcement Mr. Iván Simonovis, one of Venezuela’s longest held political prisoners of the Maduro narco-dictatorship, the Trump Administration has sent a clear message that the U.S. will continue to stand with the Venezuelan people as they work towards a free and democratic Venezuela.”
Rubio is the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.

“Durante el discurso del estado de la unión, el presidente Trump reiteró una vez más el apoyo inquebrantable de los Estados Unidos al pueblo de Venezuela, al presidente interino Juan Guaidó y a la Asamblea Nacional electa democráticamente. Desde el día en que el Sr. Guaidó asumió el rol de presidente interino, EE.UU. ha sido una fuerte voz de apoyo y solidaridad a la administración interina, incluyendo a la única institución democrática de Venezuela, la Asamblea Nacional. Al invitar al presidente interino Juan Guaidó y al Coordinador De Seguridad el Sr. Iván Simonovis, uno de los ex-presos políticos de la narco-dictadura de Maduro, la administración del presidente Trump ha enviado un mensaje claro que los Estados Unidos continuará apoyando al pueblo venezolano mientras trabajan por una Venezuela libre y democrática “.
