I’m pleased that Jon Hammar is being returned safely to the U.S., and I appreciate the Mexican government’s attention to this case and its actions allowing Mr. Hammar to return home to his family in time for Christmas. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Bill Nelson and John Cornyn were great partners in working to secure Mr. Hammar’s freedom, and we appreciated the support of many more of our colleagues. And I want to give a special thanks to New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez, who assisted with this case by personally reaching out to Governor Cesar Duarte of Chihuahua state in Mexico, and made him aware about Mr. Hammar’s situation.
