Fighting for Florida

After yesterday’s Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Senator Rubio met with actress Jada Pinkett Smith, an anti-trafficking advocate and founder of the non-profit Don’t Sell Bodies. During the meeting, Rubio heard the stories of three young women who have overcome tragic situations and are now trying to rebuild their lives and prevent human trafficking from claiming more victims. Watch Bay News 9’s coverage of yesterday’s meetings here.
Rubio penned an op-ed with Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) about the importance of the fight against human trafficking. They wrote, “Our laws must be renewed and updated to protect victims and improve our government’s ability to combat modern-day slavery. No matter where they are in the world, the victims of human trafficking need a strong America to champion their cause as our own.” Read their full op-ed in Roll Call here.
