Rubio Earns Perfect “A+” Conservative Rating From Americans For Prosperity

Jan 11, 2012 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – Americans for Prosperity (AFP), a free market grassroots group, announced that U.S. Senator Marco Rubio earned a “Perfect A+” conservative rating on its mid-term congressional scorecard of key economic votes in 2011. The perfect rating makes Rubio one of only five Senators and 39 Representatives to earn the highest rating for his votes on the repeal of President Obama’s health care law, preempting the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to regulate greenhouse gases, the House Republican Budget to reduce spending and save Medicare, ending ethanol subsidies, several Congressional Review Act resolutions, and FY2012 appropriations bills.

“Americans for Prosperity is proud to include Florida Senator Marco Rubio among the scant number of senators with a perfect 100 percent score in the first session of the 112th Congress,” said AFP Director of Government Affairs James Valvo. “Senator Rubio’s arrival in Washington has brought a much needed consistent conservative vote on free market, economic issues. Rubio’s votes in his first year are hopefully only the beginning of his leadership on much-needed reforms to our dire fiscal situation and burdensome regulatory state.”

Following this announcement, Rubio said, “I ran for the U.S. Senate promising Floridians that I would stand up to Washington’s reckless spending and its assault on the free enterprise system. I made clear promises that I would support conservative alternatives to restore fiscal discipline and promote our free enterprise system, and I’m pleased that the groups entrusted with holding me and my colleagues accountable are validating my fulfillment of those promises.”

Rubio’s full scorecard from the first session of the 112th Congress is available here.  At the end of 2011, Rubio was also rated the second most conservative senator on the Heritage Action For America Scorecard.
